For longer-term support:

01. Who will be reviewing my survey?

Your data will only be viewed by senior members of the Surviving Hate team. We require anyone viewing the data to sign a non-disclosure agreement that forbids them from accessing the data for anything other than this project.

02. Where will my data be stored?

Surviving Hate is now using Qualtrics XM, an enterprise-level survey platform that adheres to internationally certified levels of encryption and personally identifiable information protection. Click here to learn more about Qualtrics XM’s security protocols.

Surviving Hate previously utilized CityBase Screendoor, an enterprise-level form management system used by city governments, non-profit organizations and media organizations. All data for Screendoor is stored in secure US-based servers. These servers use Secure Sockets Layer (“SSL”) encryption technology to safeguard your sensitive information.

03. How long will my data be stored?

Surviving Hate is currently ongoing. Your information will be stored for the duration of the project. It will be retained for up to five years following the conclusion of the project.

04. How will my data be used?

Your information will be used as part of an aggregate (non-personalized) look into the prevalence and nature of hate crimes and other forms of racism and discrimination across Canada. All submissions will be used as part of a larger data analysis, the results of which will be published in mainstream media outlets, including the National Observer and our project partners, in the form of articles, graphs, and potentially on radio and television broadcasts.

We have also included an option for respondents to “opt-in” to being contacted by a member of the Surviving Hate research team if they are interested in sharing further details of their experiences. Your confidentiality will be protected as we will not share identifying details of any submission without explicit consent.

05. Will I be contacted if I do not have further information to share?

As part of our commitment to ongoing transparency, survey participants will receive regular updates about Surviving Hate.

07. Will my information be shared with police or other authorities?

No. We do not share any information submitted to Surviving Hate to law enforcement or to other authorities.
