Biography

Coming from Membertou First Nations, Jaida is a Mi'kmaq and Cree First Nation who grew up on the prairies. After finishing a degree in Political Science and a Diploma in Indigenous Communication of Arts at the First Nations University of Canada, Jaida went on to work for the Institute for Investigative Journalism at Concordia University as a Research Fellow and the Saskatchewan reporter for Project Pandemic. While working for Concordia University, Jaida expanded her knowledge in data journalism under Patti Sonntag, this is where she was able to work collaboratively with other research fellows and reveal major gaps in First Nation's funding, housing, basic infrastructure, distance from care, and long term care homes disparities throughout Canada. Jaida is now following her interest in self-governance and First Nations sovereignty on Treaty 4 territory in Saskatchewan as an intern for the Tribal Chief's office at File Hills Qu'Appelle Tribal Council.
