Each year, governments across Canada issue thousands of contracts, awarding companies billions of dollars to provide goods, services and construction. The Investigative Journalism Foundation partnered with StoryLab to build a searchable database of federal procurement contracts. Two StoryLab research assistants, Anusha Siddiqui and Liv Chug received paid internships to work on the database as well as report on stories gleaned from the data.

“I’m so grateful to the team at StoryLab for making this procurement database possible. This database will help Canadians uncover government waste and corruption by making nearly $400 billion in government spending easily searchable. The research expertise and fantastic students from Humber played an essential role in making this all possible.” – Zane Schwartz, CEO and Managing Editor of the Investigative Journalism Foundation
In October, Liv Chug spoke at Data Driven 2024 about their time working at the Investigative Journalism Foundation.
