About the project

The Investigative Journalism Foundation is seeking 1-2 interns to work in our remote newsroom in 2024.

The IJF is a nonprofit newsroom focused on public interest journalism. Our website has been live for a little more than a year, but we have already published more than 100 original investigations. Our focus is on holding governments, politicians and powerful interests to account by scrutinizing who donates to politicians, who lobbies them, and how the government spends your money. We have built and constantly update databases that allow our journalists and ordinary citizens to do this kind of research.

Interns will be fully integrated into the newsroom, teaming up with reporters to dig into stories, derive data from our databases, and publish findings. We are a fully remote newsroom, so your base of operations can be anywhere. If you happen to be Toronto-based you will be welcome to come into our office there but we are looking for the best candidates, regardless of location. Your ideas for original investigations will be welcome, and your suggestions for how we can better exploit data and our databases will be encouraged. We’re excited to work with you and to offer an opportunity for your byline to appear on our site.
